What is GST?

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It replaced multiple taxes like VAT, service tax, excise duty, etc., creating a unified tax system across the country.

GST Rates in India

  • 0% - Essential goods and services exempt from GST
  • 3% - Gold, precious stones
  • 5% - Essential commodities like food items
  • 12% - Standard rate for certain goods and services
  • 18% - Standard rate for most goods and services
  • 28% - Luxury items and sin goods

CGST, SGST, and IGST

For intra-state transactions (within the same state), GST is divided equally into CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST). For inter-state transactions, IGST (Integrated GST) is applied, which is the sum of CGST and SGST.
